No people are just stupid. Pugs are from China there is no such thing as a Chinese pug as all pugs are inherently Chinese

The breed is just registered as a Pug, but is said to have originated in China. So, there is no difference other that people calling it by the incorrect breed name. The same would be true of the Bulldog. Many people call them an English Bulldog, but they’re registered with the AKC as just a Bulldog. Someone did point out to me, however, that the UKC does register them as an English Bulldog.

Well same difference as a French Poodle and a Poodle.
It depends on where in the world you are and the age of the person you are speaking to.
Older people tend to still put the proper names on dogs.
They are the same breed of dog tho.

Pugs are also know as Dutch Mastiff in parts of the world.
    Mini that is.

Generally, something referred to as a Chinese Pug by its breeder has a shorter snout, and is stockier. They are bred to conform to the style that was seen in the original Pugs that were only seen with the Chinese Emperor an his court. There are other Pugs that have slightly more elongated snouts and lest chesty bodies, but essentially a Pug is a Pug. Breeding can have a lot of influence in one or two generations, and the people who are keeping them in the old, tradition form refer to them as CHinese Pugs, rather than just Pugs.

Unfortunately, as much as this may seem like a good idea, the concept of breeding a dog’s snout to be so short that it resembles a human face also sets it up for breathing difficulties, and this sty;e Pug only has a life expectancy of around 12 years, whereas the leggier longer snouted versions can live for around 14 years.
