China began it’s policy in 1979 and is pretty radical. One future consequence that will aid poulation control is that the number of girls aborted is causing a male/ female ratio imbalance which will mean there are not enough women to go around!
Japan has an ageing population, people are healthy and live very long lives.
Not much help in the end there, sorry.

China (1.321 billion people) is trying to reduce its population by only allowing 1 child per family and by promoting birth control. China has long term plans that within 300 years it will reduce its population to 300 to 500 million people. Japan’s population is getting smaller because its reproductive rates are quite small when compared to other developed countries. Japan also does now not allow many immigrants in the same way that Canada & the USA allow immigrants. With this type of attitude Japan’s population is destined to continue shrinking. China has more people migrating to other countries than are migrating to China. In Canada there are 1 million Chinese people.
China is reducing its population through implementation of the one-child policy. If any couple breaks that rule, and even if they have twins, they are asked to pay a fine.
As for Japan, they aren’t really reducing their population as far as I know. Japan has a serious ageing population, so the government encourages Japanese families to have kids. There is no one-child policy in Japan.
china does not want to let its population to die out, the one child policy is a temporary to slow down the popoulation growth and could be abolished anytime.
the ratio of boys to girls in china is 1 to 1.07 and the main reason are boys are better at working in the fields and thus the farmers want a boy as there child. but many people in the rural have more than 1 child as the one child policy works better in the cities
japan is one of the most densly populated country it has 100 millions people living in a area around the size of italy but no steps are made yet in japan
Why China and Japan have population decline.
China:
-One-child policy.
-Raising more than 2 or more children is expensive.
-Parents prefer one child in order to save money.
-Parents prefer one child so that the parents can pursue their career.
-Female infanticide
-Due to female infanticide, many Chinese men will be unable to find wives.
-Population is aging.
Japan:
-Raising more than 2 or more children is expensive.
-Parents prefer one child in order to save money.
-Parents prefer one child so that the parents can pursue their career.
-Many people are choosing not to marry.
-High suicide rate.
-Population is aging.
CHINA:
China is reducing its population through the One-Child Policy. Otherwise, both Japan and China are not reducing their populations, but the population is declining due to infanticide (China) and the preference of people whether they want children.
Unfortunately, the One-Child Policy formalized by the Chinese Communist Government severely damaged China’s social structure. Females who are pregnant with their child, they will be aborted if the woman already have another children. Women who violate the One-Child law will be sterilized.
Also, due to the one-child law, the preference of male babies was more important than having a female. If a female bay was born, the baby will be killed, or if the fetus is identified as a female, it will aborted. This senseless killing not only destroyed the lives of these innocent females, but it caused the event in which the majority of Chinese men will not find a wife. This will contribute to further population decline.
JAPAN:
Japan has a population decline due to the fact that couples are choosing to have one-child in order to easily pursue there careers and spend less money. Feminism is one of the reason why the population decline is happening. More women want to go into the workplace and pursue their career.
Also, due to the fact that the typical Japanese is wealthy, they want to enjoy a child-free life.
Population decline in Japan is severe because the average age of Japan is 44 years-old and aging is occurring fast. Soon foreigners will be needed to take-care of the elderly. Based on my thought, despite Japan is building robots to take care of the elderly and lower foreign immigrants coming to the country, foreigners maybe needed to help maintain the robots.
There have been cases in which elderly citizens were neglected by the health care system. For example, some nurses/doctors improperly take care of the elderly by giving them less attention. Foreigners and robots will need to work side-by-side so that the elderly citizen will be safe, well cared, and secure. The robots cannot do everything.
Hi! I am Japanese man, living in Japan.
As said from everyone above, China has one child policy. I don’t know about China’s situation to reduce its population.
Japan is facing the aging population, and declining birth rate that is because recently more women choose their career instead of having a baby, becoming a hull time housewife compared to in the past decade.
reducing population? No no~. On the contrary, Japanese government have just begun a raising-child allowance( paid $ 130 every month to familiy who have a child until they graduate from high school). Japanese government expect this policy to stimulate families to have more child.
