Question by : What size China cymbal should I have for playing metal?
I am new to drumming and want to get a china cymbal. I can’t decide if I should go with a 14″ or a 16″. Any advice on which would sound better? I am planning on using it for songs like Two Weeks by All That Remains

Whichever sound you like better. Go to Guitar Center or something and try them out. Size doesn’t matter. If, hypothetically, I had a cymbal that was 30″, but it sounded like the best cymbal in the world, I would use it.

Well 14″ is what I use, but it’s all a matter of preference. I would go to guitarcenter and try them out before you settle on one. Don’t just stick to one brand or one size…explore.
Bigger china cymbals maybe used when going really into the groove or when the song is building, or when you just want that big china sound. Smaller china cymbals are used for more fast accents.
16″ and up are more sensitive to touch, you can sorts of ride on them, they are easier to control, they have more sounds in them and they have a longer decay. Smaller china cymbals tend to be a bit one-sided and their sound is easily overrun in a loud situation.
We hope this helps.
you know what i would recomend getting a 18 inch china from Wuhan…. its cheap but has a great thrashy sound and pro drummers use it to so you know its good… but me i have 2 China’s a 18 inch and a 20 inch Wuhan’s and i really like it.
