Question by ninjapanda500: What kind of Electrical Outlet Adapter will I need to go to China?
I am planning to go on a trip to China and I know that China uses a different type of electrical outlet, What kind of converter or adapter will I need to make my US electronics work with it?
I will most likely be spending my time at a relatives house, so I wont be able to receive stuff from hotels or anything.

you don’t have to. You can borrow one in your hotel for free.

110-220
The most common outlets in China are the ones that are standard in Australia and the old European style. However, they do use every kind of plug imaginable. Your friend will probably already have adapters for the US style plugs. If not, they are cheap and easy to get in China. If you really want to bring one, I’d bring one that adapts US style plug to Australian style socket.
The more important thing is the difference in the power supply voltage. In the US, the AC power supply is 110 volts while the standard in China is 220 volts. If your appliances don’t operate on 220 volts you will have a problem unless you bring a voltage converter. These are more difficult to get in China.
I am a transplanted American living in Asia.
DO NOT DEPEND ON THE HOTEL TO GIVE YOU AN ADAPTER ———- BRING YOUR OWN.
Today, many appliances are duel voltage. They auto sense the input voltage. Both my HP laptops are that way. Look at the input voltage and it is 100V – 240v then you are fine. If they say 110, then you will need a converter. I would strongly suggest that if you only have a few things that are 110 only and they are relatively inexpensive, such as battery charges, etc, that you buy new items that are 100v to 240v.
As far as the plugs, I have found that the two pronged American type plug can fit in the Chinese plugs with little hassle. The only problem you may have is one of the prongs on the American plugs are slightly wider. I’ve found I only have to shove a little harder.
You will find in china several different types of wall plugs. One looks kind of like the American version, the other is a three pronged one that the normal American plug will not fit in. Got to the market in China and buy a small power strip. They are very cheap, but do not buy the cheapest, they are junk. It will have the American type plugs sockets on there.
I would, however, get a few plug adapters to be on the safe side. If you need a voltage converter then buy a kit that will have all the plugs you will need for worldwide travel. They are not expensive.
Hope this helps.
