Product Description
In Six Sizzling Markets, seasoned financial veteran Pran Tiku lays out a detailed and balanced case for investing in the emerging economics of Brazil, Russia, India, China (BRIC), South Korea, and Mexico. Along the way, he analyzes each nation’s investment opportunities on the basis of eight tenets and takes a detailed look at the most lucrative industries within those countries. Filled with in-depth insights and expert advice, Six Sizzling Markets can help you profit from promising emerging world markets.

While the outline for this book is intriguing, the content contained within is much less so. Setting investment ideas within a historical context is indeed a useful and necessary strategy, but unfortunately, in this book, neither the history nor the investment thinking bear sufficient depth to provoke any substantial thought. The pages contain the beginnings of insights, which lack even a modicum of elaboration, consequently becoming empty statements strung together in what might be better placed within a Powerpoint presentation. There is neither sufficient rigor for experts, nor adequate explanation for beginners. If the book were moderately priced, I might be a bit less harsh, but at $50, people thinking about buying this book might be much better served reading a few issues of the Economist.

This book was an easy ready considering it focused on finance and history, two topics I find to be notoriously dry and dull. The chapters are short and the language is easily accessible for the most novice of investors. Added bonus: the glossary in the back keeps you up to speed on any unfamiliar jargon and the chapters give you good summaries/wrap ups at the ends as well.
The book goes into each country in chunks, first divulging its political/economic history to provide context and then delves into some key factors that are used to evaluate the economy and finally provides some country specific rising corporation profiles so you can at least gain some exposure to those markets. The last 20% of the book is all reference material and helps you further apply the knowledge in the preceeding pages, guiding you through how to evaluate which markets and in what sectors you should invest in based on your risk tolerance, diversificaiton etc. There are charts, interviews from experts and other references to provide optimum context.
I read this book as part of a book club and it was a perfect starting point for finance and portfolio building discussion in the area of emerging markets.

Foreign investment in today’s global economy is indeed tricky business. Though the opportunity for high profits exists–as evidenced by the billions of foreign direct investment per year–these same emerging markets are fraught with risk and uncertainty, of which investors many well-developed nations are virtually unaccustomed.
In “Six Sizzling Markets: How to Profit From Investing in Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Korea and Mexico” (Wiley 2008) finance and investment thoughtleader Pran Tiku explores six of the fastest growing markets in the global economy, in a book no savvy investor ought to be without. Incorporating deep historical analysis, contemporary trends and the “Eight Tenets of Growth” Tiku outlines the driving forces behind today’s emerging economies–and shows investors of all levels how to reap the profits.
Weighing demographics, economic performance, technology, open trade, infrastructure development, transparency legal systems, education, and financial policies, Tiku concludes each market analysis by examining the nation’s most promising industries, as well as the individual companies that are poised to sustain long-term economic growth. With a host of exchange-traded funds, mutual funds, American Depository Receipts (ADRs) and analysis of various indexes, “Six Sizzling Markets” blends the hard data of an economist with the insight and perspective of a historian–making it a balanced, informative, easy-to-read guide on investing in developing markets.
Pran Tiku, Principal and founder of Peak Financial Management, Inc., in Waltham, Massachusetts, has been providing clients with expert investment analysis for over twenty-five years–the last four of which he was recognized by Worth magazine as one of the nation’s top 100 financial advisers.
A sought-out expert on a wide variety of financial topics, Pran is a frequent guest on Bloomberg TV, CNBC, NECN, Fox Business and CNNfn in addition to regularly publishing articles, essays and opinion pieces to the local and national press. His involvement with such associations as the Boston Society for the Institute of Financial Planners and the Boston Chapter for the International Association for Financial Planning, and the Financial Planning Practitioners– in addition to hosting a variety of courses and seminars– has helped him become one of the industry’s most regarded experts.
