Refined, sophisticated, and versatile at once, the platinum-banded Lenox Solitaire place setting is the perfect dinnerware for special occasions and elegant parties any time of year. Ivory- bodied, the fine china plates feature a 1/4-inch band gleaming platinum on the rim and a finer band on the interior. An indented ridge around the edge of the plate adds dimension to the platinum’s shine. The teacup is ringed with platinum at the foot and rim and plated along the gentle outer curve of its handle. The five-piece setting includes a 10-3/4-inch dinner plate, an 8-1/8-inch salad/dessert plate, a 6-3/8-inch bread and butter plate, a 6-1/8-inch saucer, and a 6-ounce teacup. All pieces are dishwasher-safe and covered by Lenox’s lifetime replacement policy. The Solitaire pattern also comes in serving pieces, stemware, and accessories. –Emily Bedard

Lenox Solitaire Platinum-Banded Fine China 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

If you were lucky enough to buy this china back in the sixties, when it was introduced, then you likely enjoy your purchase. The product that Lenox sells today is vastly inferior–I speak from experience, having purchased my service for 16 within the last two years. I have received pieces directly from Lenox’s so-called “first quality” showrooms, and they had pitted glaze, discoloration on the metal banding, and even black spots (called pepper marks in the trade) on a few pieces! I would expect this from one of the outlet stores, but not when ordering first quality! Trying to return flawed pieces was a hassle–they wanted me to pay the return shipping on their misrepresented pieces!
The “lifetime replacement” policy has a few key restrictions that they often neglect to inform customers of properly. You must pay shipping, and you must send them payment that is 50% of the full MSRP (which is usually grossly inflated over what you will pay in a department store such as Macy’s). On top of that, if your pattern or the piece in question is discontinued, you are out of luck…and Lenox discontinues patterns at an alarmingly high rate. Solitaire has been a top seller for Lenox for many years, so it will probably be around for a while, but you never know…
Lucky for me, I have completed my set, and have never broken a dish in my life, so I probably don’t have to worry about it. For those of you just starting to purchase fine china, do yourself a favor and compare the quality of Spode, Wedgwood, or Royal Copenhagen. In my experience they produce a higher quality product, and are more willing to stand behind what they sell. Best of luck!

This china pattern is the most elegant of all of the Lenox choices. I have had it for many years and have enjoyed using it for all of the special occasions as well as the little occasions that are made special by using this beautiful china.
The silver rims are made of platinum….even adding to the value and beauty of the pieces. No polishing needed for platinum!
Hope anyone who buys this china and uses it will have created a heirloom to pass on in their families.
Another rating complains about the quality. If you buy anything less than first quality pieces, you are getting less than first quality. Seconds are unacceptable in my book!

My Lenox Solitaire China is 30 years old and is as beautiful as when it was new. I used it to serve specials dinners to my four children from the time they were toddlers. My gourmet group and extended families appreciate the beauty of the place settings along with the sterling silver and candles. All of the pieces have been washed in the dishwasher and the sheen is as lustrous as ever. I am always looking for sales to add to my collection. My fourth child dreams of the day when she can have a dining room to continue all of our family traditions and tell her children the stories of her own life at the dining room table.
