How often do you use your china? Do you use all of the pieces, or some more than others? I am considering not even getting teacups and saucers, and maybe bowls. I just don’t see myself using them that often.

Very rarely, not even once a year once I had kids.
If you are going to do a lot of entertaining, get
dinner plates, salad plates, cups and saucers.
Skip the individual bowls unless you do a lot of
soup courses. And forget the tiny bowls; no
body seems to use those at all! Bread and
butter plates are nice to have, but the salad
plates you can use to serve salad or dessert.
I’d add a meat platter and 2 vegetable dishes.
Any other serving dishes can be glass/crystal
or silver, and you can add them over time.
If you serve coffee, add a cream pitcher and
sugar bowl. Again, those could be crystal
or silver as well.
I love my china, and I love using it. I think it
makes a beautiful table. Once a month I set
my dining room table using some of the pieces
that I have not used in a while. But my kids have
gotten old enough that they don’t mess with it, I have
a separate dining room that is not in the way of everyday life, and I have inherited 2 sets of china, some crystal and silver
as well as my own. I hate having it all in the cupboard all the time, even if we aren’t actually eating in the dining room, I like to look at it.
I currently don’t use mine, I am living with roommates. But when on my own, I used it all the time! I love to eat off of it and look at it. When I entertain, my guests feel special that I “brought out” the China just for them
! It basically would depend on how you feel about it. I love it! I may not be the most wealthy person but I consider it a treat to myself and my guests to eat in style!
I asked myself, ‘what or who am I saving this for?’. When the answer was ‘something special’, I decided that **we** are special enough.
I brought out the china (it is Pfaltzgraff, so not too-too fancy) and use it every day. I got a lot of pieces on eBay, so I have lots and lots of pieces.
We use the ‘luncheon’ plates all the time — having a smaller dinner plate helps us eat smaller servings. We use them, and the ‘salad’ plates, for meals and sandwiches regularly.
A couple of serving bowls, a platter are nice. Many sets have coffee/tea cups that are smaller than what we use, anyway, so they are easy to skip, as are the saucers.
I suggest you get all of the pieces. My pattern is now out of Stock and i would dearly love to have some serving pieces. If you don’t get the bowls, or the tea cups there will be some time in the future that you wish you had them. Or your children will wish you had them
WOW! This is very inspiring. I think we will have dinner on the good dishes tonight. And Celebrate Saturday!
