The People’s Republic of China is listed at a population of 1.3 billion and a GDP of 7.9 trillion USD.
How does the outside world know that these numbers, or others like them, are accurate? There are certainly many reasons that a country may be motivated to tweak these figures.
Compared to other nations, the PRC is somewhat “closed” and opaque, with a relatively high level of secrecy. So how does the rest of the world know the level of validity and reliability of these statistics?

They don’t.
I’m pretty sure policy makers take this into account as much as they can.
“many reasons”? ok then, why would they lie about their population?
what about every other country? Why single China out like that, huh? the US could lie about the statistics but what would be the point?
China is a country willing to cooperate with the world but the Western countries are too fearful to cooperate, so they send propaganda to the citizens to make sure they don’t like the PRC either.
they use a simple formula in which there is a 50% chance that 87% of the statistics are 3.14% accurate to the third degree and the 4th power of E=mc2 with a decimal base of .00006.
