I am doing a modern Oratory assignment and poverty. How does china keep their poverty rates low? What are they doing that the US isn’t? How long have they been working on the issue of poverty?

They do not accurately report their poverty rate. this is due to several reasons including a strong socialist government that lies about social progress, as well as a very different definition of poverty compared to western countries.
but since the government mandates that employers provide housing, and basic medical services for the vast majority of people in china the government can LIE about their poverty rates.
the chinese view the situation as what I would call it 2 chinas. 1 is the industrialized areas on the east coast. In those areas the income levels are higher, so are the education levels. Then you have the second area which is in the middle and western parts of the country. These are the VILLAGE chinese. people who have no windows in their houses, who must burn coal in their living room to have heat in the winter, those who live on the farms and in the farm lands. They are extremely POOR (third world levels). So don’t just believe the chinese government statistics because they are LIES.

It’s called statistical manipulation. Even in China $ 90/yr won’t provide a subsistence level of consumption. The US could say poverty dropped to 0% if we set the threshold for poverty level at $ 90/yr.
Poverty rates in China are some of the highest in the world. The vast majority of people there have to walk miles just to collect water from a polluted stream….
Sorry but the truth hurts…….
That is due to the definition of poverty standards.
China is sure a lot richers than most Third world countries.
