Question by Tammy: How do you tell the difference between Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodian person?
I usually can identify Japanese, Philippine, Thai
but between Chinese,Korean, Vietnamese I usually have to guess.
I dont mean to sound racist, but its hard to distinguish.
Even Asians will guess wrong.
Plus they always seem to get offended when you guess wrong.

Well, it’s pretty hard to distinguish a scottish person from a swiss person too just by looks. Or maybe a French person and a hungarian person… that is, unless you hear their accent or have some other clue. So don’t worry, they won’t be offended if you guess someone’s country wrong– just accept them for who they are : )
Same way you can tell the difference between other Europeans?!
Look at my display picture and tell me what I am.
The easiest way to tell is to listen to them, see what language they speak.
Korean look different from Chinese, but more assemble to Japanese. So I am quite curious how you can distinguish Japanese from the two but not Chinese from the two.
As for Vietnamese and Cambodian, well some of them have darker complexion.
I can tell apart East Asian from Southeast Asian (lighter skinned v. darker skinned) but then China has many ethnic minorities which can be dark skinned. It is very difficult to tell some apart, and I never want to offend.
What Alex said is very true, language is the best distinguishing characteristic.
Can you tell a difference between a person from Kenya and a person from Nigeria? How about a person from France and Germany, from my naked eyes, i see no difference. So how do i find out? I ask them, the same way how you should ask your Asian friends.
Trust me, we Asians are less offended if someone respectfully asks us what’s our ethnicity.
