  1. Dr Storey is a charismatic and insightful teacher. He can also translate his knowledge into writing in a highly readable, yet extremely useful fashion. Anyone working on developing a business in China will find this book practically useful, a pleasure to read and highly easy to apply to the issues of Chinese commerce.

    A must read

  2. H. Carter says:

Story is one of the world’s leading writers on business and the political environment. In this book he brings his skills to bear with a detailed and specific study of contemporary China. The book is not an academic tract – it has a close focus on what businesses and investors really need to know about the country. But it is based on a breathtaking depth of knowledge and scholarship (as has been seen before, for example in his work on the politics of the European Union). It is a deeply impressive – and extremely useful – short work, which everyone should read before trying to do business with China.

Jonathan Story’s new work on China should be read by anyone setting up, or thinking of so doing, business in China. The book is full of useful analyses which will appeal to business men and women, as the analyses are practical and insightful. Grounded in the experience of others and Story’s own long exposure to events in China, the text is lucid and fluent. In addition the book contains a powerful method for evaluating the desirability of entering the Chinese market with all its opportunities and challenges. No one starting to do, or thinking of doing, business in China should be without this book.

  4. This is a very interesting book. It is quite well written. Jonathan has written a document that will give many Western organisations an approach to be respectful of China but not just be blindsided by sheers numbers. It is about understanding of the context, history and scale. To learn to be patient in what could be a very lucrative market. There are some very good cases studies on how the organisation should work in China. It is a very good and practical guide which organisations should at least consider and think on.
