This was an interesting, quick, read. I’d have to say that it was nothing more than a ‘booklet’ – maybe 30-40 pages long if it was in print. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this book wasn’t written as though it was intended for publication ‘as is’. It sounded as though it consisted of taped notes by the author to himself for an article that would later be written. No background is given on anything, nor are there any details or ‘filler’. The author is (based on the bio at the end of this book) a well-respected travel writer from Australia, and that only seemed to confirm my initial feeling that I was reading his personal notes on the trip, and that they were intended to be the groundwork for a more detailed and in-depth article to be published upon his return. It was interesting, yes, but very bare-bones, and not a story at all – just a list of people and places that composed his itinerary, and some observations about the places/events. Even though I enjoyed it well enough, I’m not sure I could actually recommend it to anyone – I’d much rather have read the final product in a travel magazine.

The Silk Road has long been a source of fascination. This is an interesting insight into the travels of a couple as they explore the Silk Road and visit the places and the peoples along the Silk Road. With photograhs. Well written.
